Sean Neylon went over the 1,000 career-point mark with a poster dunk for the Cardinals as they picked up a 73-49 victory over Moravian on Saturday afternoon. Neylon needed 10 points to cross the threshold and finished the day with a game-high 16 points as Catholic picked up its sixth straight victory.
The Cardinals built a 13-point advantage less than 10 minutes into the game as a
Jamie Ntiamoah steal and dunk put Catholic ahead 20-7 with 11:28 to play in the first half. The Cardinal lead grew to 17 after a
Charley Hepting put back with 3:16 to play in the first half.
Dan Buckley drained a three with 2:08 to go in the opening frame to push the lead back to 17, but the Greyhounds knocked down two threes to end the half and cut the lead to 36-25 at the break.
Catholic opened the second half on a 7-0 run as Buckley picked off a pass and took it in for a layup to give the Cardinals a 43-25 lead. With 11:30 to play, Marquis Ratcliff hit a three to pull Moravian back within nine before Liam Cummiskey made it an eight-point game less than a minute later.
Now leading 50-42, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 run to take a 62-42 lead. Neylon slammed down a dunk with 7:59 to play, putting him at 1,000 career points before canning two threes during the run to push the lead to 20. The Cardinal lead reached 24 as
Ryan Pegg knocked down a three-pointer with 1:29 to play. Pegg would knock down another with nine seconds left to close out the 24-point victory.
QUICK HITTERS
- Catholic has won nine straight against the Greyhounds, dating back to February 2020, a 59-56 victory for Moravian. Since then, Catholic has won seven of its nine straight games by double digits.
- With four threes made on Saturday, Neylon has 33 made for the season. The senior sharpshooter is nailing 55 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
- Justin Green grabbed nine rebounds in the contest, his highest mark since the 2021-22 season.
- Catholic's six-game winning streak makes it four straight years with a win streak of six or more for Catholic.
Catholic will host the Tom McKavitt Classic on December 18 and 19, playing Rowan on the 18th at 5 pm.
