WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rowan knocked down 13 triples en route to an 85-71 victory over 24th-ranked Catholic in the Tom McKavitt Classic on Wednesday evening in the DuFour Center.
Jamie Ntiamoah scored a career-high 18 points to lead Catholic's efforts, but could not overcome the Profs.
The Cardinals took a 24-12 lead after a
Googie Seidman three with 12:43 to play in the first half, but an 8-0 run over 1:41 pulled the Profs within four as Drew Amos canned a three-pointer off a Tyrese Myrick steal. Another Amos three pulled Rowan within three before Brycen Williams tied the contest with a triple at the 9:08 mark. By the time the 11-0 run was ended by
Sean Neylon at the 7:04 mark, Rowan had built a 31-26 lead. Rowan ended the half on a 17-5 run, taking a 52-36 edge into the halftime break.
Catholic pulled back within nine with 17:46 left in regulation as Neylon got free for a triple to make it a 55-46 game. Rowan built it back to 14, but the Cardinals ultimately got back within eight with 11:18 remaining as Ntiamoah knocked down his first career triple to make it 65-57. Unfortunately for
Aaron Kelly's side, Rowan had an answer in it, scoring the next seven points. The Cardinals were unable to get the deficit under 12 points across the final 10:24 of the contest.
Dan Buckley added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to the cause for Catholic, while Neylon finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Seidman had a season-high nine points in 16 minutes off the bench.
Myrick scored 22 off the bench to lead the Profs while one of the nation's top scorers, Khalif Meares, scored 20 points and had seven assists.
Catholic will face Marymount (Va.) tomorrow in the tournament consolation match at 1 p.m.
