WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Cardinal defense and keeper
Ava Rieger recorded their 11th shutout of the 2024 season in a 0-0 draw versus a strong Mary Washington side on Wednesday night.
Heading into the final match of the regular season, Catholic is now 7-6-4 on the season while Mary Washington moves to 9-4-4.
Rieger takes over sole possession of the single-season program record with her 11th clean sheet of the season, surpassing Lexi Halperin's 2014 campaign with 10 clean sheets. Heading into the final turn of the campaign, Rieger is also currently the holder of the single-season records in GAA and save percentage. The junior added four saves to give her 52 on the season with a percentage of .867.
The Cardinals put an end to a three-match winning streak for the Eagles as they entered the contest after victories over Salisbury, Southern Virginia, and Franklin & Marshall.
Despite being out shot 13-7, the Cardinals put more shots on target than the Eagles, forcing Adriana Thompson to make five saves.
Sara Placide had two shots on target for Catholic while fellow starters
Emily Harkins and
Teighan Boyle each recorded shots on goal.
Ava Gregorio added the final shot on target for Catholic off the bench.
The Cardinals will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Juniata in a contest that could factor strongly into Landmark Conference Tournament seeding.
