Lycoming Edges Past Catholic

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Catholic (5-6-3) fell below .500 after a tough road defeat to a strong Lycoming (11-2-3) side on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors took the lead early, using a seventh-minute goal from Claudia Green to put the Cardinals at a deficit. Catholic was never able to put away an equalizer, falling to 1-3-2 in the Landmark.

The Cardinals totaled eight shots with four of them on target, but Riley Block kept Catholic off the score sheet over the full 90.

Isabel Doherty and Sara Placide each tested Block and the Warriors in the 22nd and 24th minutes, but both shots were saved by the keeper.

The Warriors almost extended the lead to 2-0, but Mikayla Long's shot in the 33rd minute was cleared off the line to keep the deficit at one goal. Abigail Umhoefer put one on target in the 37th, but Ava Rieger made the save, her first of four on the afternoon.

Rieger added saves in the 60th and 72nd minutes to try and keep the Cardinals in the contest before Catholic challenged Block in the 82nd and 84th minutes. Faith Sawyer and Doherty each tested the keeper, but weren't able to equalize. The final shot of the contest was turned away by Rieger in the 87th minute.

Catholic will play out the season at Carlini Field as it continues to battle for positioning in the Landmark Conference table on Wednesday versus Goucher.
