WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's basketball team downed Moravian on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated and move to 12-0 in Landmark Conference play.
No. 8 Catholic was dominant from start to finish, holding the Greyhounds to just 31 percent from the field in the opening quarter to outscore them, 27-15. Matt Donohue's team never looked back, extending that lead by five to take a 17-point advantage to the halftime break. The Cardinals outscored Moravian in all four quarters.
Coming off her third double-double in her last four games and a career rebounding performance, Anna Scoblick followed up with another impressive showing. The sophomore only missed one shot from the field while grabbing seven boards, handing out five assists and adding one block and one steal. She shot 7-of-8 from the field while also going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to register a game-high 19 points.
Carly Mulvaney and Sarah White also scored in double-figures as each delivered two three-pointers. Mulvaney passed out four assists while White forced two steals while creating countless deflections.
Kaleigh Beirne was the fourth Cardinal in double-figures as she dropped 11 off the bench. The senior showed an ability to finish in traffic near the rim as all four of her field goals came in the paint. She also converted all three of her free throw attempts while Amelia Kennedy and Molly Aromando chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Cardinals shot the ball at a high percentage on the day, making exactly half of their field goal attempts and converting at a 65.8 percent clip from inside the three-point line. Catholic also continued its trend of transitioning quickly when appropriate, outscoring the Greyhounds 23-4 in the fast break.
With the victory, the Cardinals have now extended the longest winning streak in program history to 19. Donohue's team entered the day one of just five undefeated DIII teams remaining in the country.
Catholic will now enter a difficult stretch, facing its top two Landmark Conference challengers within a week's time. First Catholic will welcome Elizabethtown to Franny Murray Court on Wednesday night before making the difficult trip to No. 15 Scranton on Saturday. The Cardinals came away with a pair of overtime victories the last time they met both the Blue Jays and the Royals.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
