WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic football wide receiver
Preston Jeffrey earned the Landmark Conference's inaugural Offensive Player of the Week award after his performance against McDaniel in a 34-7 win on Friday night.
The senior pass catcher from Carrollton, Va. started the year out with a bang, pulling in five passes for 177 yards and a two touchdowns. Jeffrey now has six 100+ receiving yard games in his career and has reached the 20 career touchdown mark after finding the end zone twice.
Both of Jeffrey's touchdowns came in the second quarter as Catholic jumped out to a 27-0 halftime advantage. With 8:48 left in the second, Jeffrey snagged a four-yard score from
Madden Lowe to put the Cardinals up 20-0. After Catholic took over possession with less than a minute remaining in the half, Jeffrey struck again.
An incomplete pass set up a second down from Catholic's own seven-yard line. Lowe stepped back to pass and lofted it up for a streaking Jeffrey on the sideline in front of the Catholic bench. Jeffrey stepped back to make a defender miss and headed towards the middle of the field where he crossed the goal line for a 93-yard score.
This is the first Athlete of the Week honor for the 2x All-NEWMAC receiver. Jeffrey was also honored by the DC Touchdown Club, earning a spot on the Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week Honor Roll.
