WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic women's tennis cruised to a 9-0 victory against Juniata this afternoon in D.C., improving to 3-2 in Landmark Conference play. The Cardinals will host Goucher on Wednesday in a massive contest with Landmark Conference Championship implications.
With the Juniata women having just five active players, Catholic started the match with a 2-0 advantage. The Cardinals dropped just one game combined in the two doubles matches while four of the Catholic women didn't drop a single game in singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Brooke Simonson and Abbey Cassidy combined for an 8-0 win while Jane Krukiel and Marissa Stambaugh won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Simonson, Cassidy and Krukiel all won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively while Stambaugh won 8-0 at No. 4 and Bridget McCabe won 8-3 at No. 5.
Catholic is now tied with Goucher at 3-2 in conference play for fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings. The winner of Wednesday's match will hold the edge to secure a spot in the Landmark Conference Championships.
