WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team earned a crucial Landmark Conference win on Monday evening, defeating Juniata 7-2 to remain firmly in the hunt for the Landmark Conference Championships next week.
James Earwood, Henry Ogden and Nathaniel Barish each earned two victories for the Cardinals as they improved to 3-3 in conference play.
Earwood and Ogden combined for a massive 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles to get Catholic started. Juniata tied the match as Diego Romo and Matt Rudolf dropped a thriller at No. 1 doubles, losing 8-7(3) in a tiebreaker. The Cardinals responded with a win at No. 3 doubles as Barish and Leyton Ramos-Platt picked up an 8-6 victory.
Catholic took five of the six singles matches with Earwood leading the charge. Earwood dominated at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Ben Annunziato picked up a win at No. 5 singles, winning 6-1 6-1 for Catholic. Ogden (6-3, 6-0), Rudolf (6-1, 7-5), and Barish (5-7, 6-0, 10-5) all picked up wins in singles play to propel the Cardinals to victory.
Catholic returns to action on Friday, taking on Stevenson in a non-conference match before finishing out conference play on Saturday at Moravian. The match against Moravian will be crucial for seeding in the Landmark Conference.
