CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Catholic women's golf team sits in sixth place after day one of the Martin & Wallace Invitational at Cortland Country Club. The Cardinals are competing in the Wallace Division against Amherst, Williams, Middlebury, Hamilton, Cortland, and Wesleyan.
Brooke Smith had a strong opening round to lead the Cardinals. Smith sits in a tie for 19th after a Saturday 78 to open the tournament. Lauren Lombardo sits in a tie for 25th, shooting a 79 (+7) on Saturday, joining Smith to pace Catholic's efforts. Lauren Wright (t36) carded an 83 to stay in the top 40 after day one.
Avery Mrak shot an 86 (+14) to place 42nd on Saturday while Annie Wright shot an 89 (+17) while competing as an individual and sits in 44th. Tyler Zierski shot 23-over par as the fifth scorer for Catholic on Saturday.
The Cardinals finished +38 for the day with an overall score of 326. Ed Dolan's squad sits 10 shots behind Cortland for fifth place. Amherst holds the lead after the first day at even par.
Catholic will start the second day of action at 11:04 tomorrow morning.
