SHAWNEE, Pa. – After holding a seven shot lead heading into the final day of the Landmark Conference Championship, the Catholic women's golf team was poised to take home the fifth conference championship in program history on Sunday. The Cardinals continued their strong play during round two and shot four strokes lower on the day to put up a team score of 331 to finish at 666 for the two days. Catholic finished 12 strokes higher than Susquehanna in second, and captured their fourth consecutive Landmark Championship, the most titles ever won in a row by a program.
The Cardinals finished with three players in the top 10 and two in the top five, led by
Brooke Smith, who has made a career of being among the conference's best players at the championship. Smith finished in a tie for second among the field after shooting a 77 on Sunday. She started off a solid run at the end of the front nine where she parred four of five holes on 5-9. Smith also picked up two birdies on the 115-yard par three on hole two and the 298-yard par four on 17.
Lauren Wright grabbed the final top five spot, coming in fifth place in the standings as she shaved one strong off her round one score with an 82 on Sunday. Wright opened the front nine strong with back-to-back pars and also did well on holes 8-9 with a birdie and a par. She collected four more pars and a birdie on the 488-yard par five on 11 to finish alone in fifth place. Coming in right behind her in a tie for sixth was
Gabi Courtney who matched her opening round score with an 83 once again. Courtney parred five out of six holes at one point during the front nine and finished with eight pars in total during her round. She also made a birdie on 17.
The next best finisher for Catholic was
Meghan Mullen who shot an 89 to finish in 12th place. Mullen collected six pars in total during her round. Rounding out the order for the Cardinals was
Mary McGuire as she placed in a tie for 25th after shooting an 98 on Sunday.
The Cardinals add on to their conference lead for the most Landmark championships with five, two more than the next closest program. It is also the second-longest active conference championship wins streak within the department.
