FROSTBURG, Md. — The Catholic University men's tennis team traveled to DII Frostburg State for a midweek clash on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-0.
The Cardinals visited the program where first-year head coach Nate Farlow played his collegiate tennis, playing well at multiple positions on the ladder.
Freshman Diego Romo showed well at No. 3 singles, taking his opponent all the way to a third-set tiebreak. Romo struggled in the first set, but was able to find tactics to keep him in the match and managed to nip the second frame before ultimately dropping a tight affair (1-6, 6-3, 10-5).
Senior Matt Rudolf and freshman Henry Ogden both fell in straight sets of very competitive matches. Rudolf fell by a break in the first before dropping the second set in a tiebreak (No. 4 singles; 5-7, 6(2)-7) while Ogden lost both sets by a single break (No. 5 singles; 5-7, 5-7).
Catholic will now return home and begin the month of April on a six-match homestand. The Cardinals welcome Landmark Conference opponents Scranton to the Dowd Family Tennis Courts on Saturday. Opening service is set for 1 p.m.
