MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - 13th-ranked Catholic baseball rebounded after a one-run loss on Friday afternoon with an 8-2 victory over Bridgewater State on Saturday morning. The Cardinals finish their trip with a record of 4-1 to improve to 11-2 overall.

Dante Pozzi, Mitchel Johnson, and Lucas Malave each recorded two hits for the Cardinals. Johnson drove in a game-high three runs for Catholic.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Bridgewater State starter Matt Josselyn. Pozzi reached on an error to start the inning and moved over to third after a double from Marini. Josselyn retired Ben Nardi, but Johnson singled to center, scoring Pozzi and Marini to put Catholic up 2-0. Malave singled to move Johnson to third, but the Bears ended the inning with a double play.

Catholic broke it open in the third, scoring four runs with two outs to give a 6-0 lead to starting pitcher Tucker Alch. Pozzi kicked off the inning with a double down the left-field line. Marini and Nardi were retired, giving Johnson a runner on third with two outs. Johnson doubled to left, scoring Pozzi to put Catholic ahead 3-0. Malave singled to left, moving Johnson up to third for Jesse Lacefield. Malave stole second before a wild pitch allowed Johnson to score and pushed Malave over to third. Lacefield then singled up the middle to score Malave and extend the lead to 5-0. Lacefield moved up to third on a pair of wild pitches and then scored on a Matthew Fisher single to left.

The Bears pushed a run across with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, but Marini answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run blast, scoring Zach Burton to put Catholic ahead 8-1.

Alch continued his strong senior campaign with 8.0 innings of two-run ball, striking out seven batters. Alch now has struck out 32 batters in 25.0 innings of work. Cody Bosak pitched a scoreless ninth for the Cardinals, striking out three batters.

Marini's homer is his fourth of the season and the team's 13th of the year. Marini is one of three Catholic players with multiple homers. Marini is also the team leader with 13 RBI this year.
