Flaherty Drops 21 as Cards Improve to 5-0

ASHLAND, Va. — The Catholic University women's basketball team moved to 5-0 on the season with a 13-point victory over Shenandoah as part of the RMC Tip-Off Challenge on Sunday afternoon.

Catholic again got out to a hot start, mirroring its strategy from yesterday's win over Randolph-Macon.

The Cardinals got off to a perfect start on defense when Keegan Douglas forced a steal on the opening possession that led directly to a Sarah White three. Catholic then closed the quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 24-9 advantage to the quarter break.

Catholic then protected that lead as neither team outscored the other by more than three points in each of the final three quarters.

Graduate transfer Kerry Flaherty had her best performance in a Catholic uniform to date, dropping a game-high 21 to lead all scorers. She shot lights out, knocking down seven threes in efficient fashion, going a near-perfect 7-for-8 from deep. She also grabbed six boards.

Douglas played well again, adding 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The junior also grabbed four rebounds and added two steals. This marks the first time on the young season that she did not lead Catholic in scoring.

Catholic's starting five were the difference in the contest as it accounted for all but six points. Carly Mulvaney was in double figures again with 12 points while White dropped nine and Anna Scoblick added eight. Scoblick led Catholic with two blocks and eight rebounds, three of which came on the offensive end.

The Cardinals are off to a 5-0 start just as they were two seasons ago in 2021 when Matt Donohue's women began the campaign 7-0. Catholic will now face a nine-day hiatus from competitive action before returning from the Thanksgiving holiday to its Landmark Conference opener. The Cardinals will travel north to face No. 18 Elizabethtown on Nov. 29.
