WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team fell to Mary Washington, 148-114, on Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center.
Senior Ellis Prescott provided the highlight of the meet when he chased down Mary Washington's Jack Schreiber to win the 1,000-yard freestyle in thrilling fashion. Prescott trailed by over six seconds at the halfway mark before turning on the jets and closing the gap in the final 250 yards. He swam a staggering 27.48 on the final lap to fly past Schreiber and win by more than a second (10:30.14)
The Cardinal quartet of William Crecca, Jack Hufner, Daniel Green and Jeffrey Schriefer-Flores combined for win in the 200 free relay, clocking a time of 1:29.21. Green also earned an individual victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.36.
Junior Nathan Ober claimed three victories on the day, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (2:10.80), 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.80) and 200-yard individual medley (1:59.92).
Hufner also grabbed two wins in the short-distance events of 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 55.46 and 2:00.24, respectively. Crecca also picked up a win in the 50 free, swimming 21.57, his second-fastest time of the season.
Catholic returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 21, for their final home meet of the season. The Cardinals will welcome the Sea Gulls of Salisbury to the DuFour Center on Senior Day. Senior day programming will take place prior to the scheduled 1 p.m. start.
