WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team fell to Marymount (Va.) on Sunday, 6-3.
Senior Matt Rudolf performed well on both the singles and the doubles courts, picking up two victories. He was able to earn a victory in straight sets at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-4) and combined with Diego Romo at No. 2 doubles to win at love.
Ben Annunziato registered his first victory in Catholic colors in his second career start, defeating Nathaniel Tesfaye at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Henry Odgen and sophomore Ben Perks put up a great fight at No. 3 doubles, dropping a tight match in a tiebreak. (7-6(7-5)). The freshman also battled at No. 5 singles, falling in a marathon three-set battle to Dean Cole. Ogden took the first set by a break before Cole did the same in the second set. Cole got the better of Ogden in the third-set tiebreaker that finished 11-9.
The Cardinals will return to action in 12 days time when they travel to Mary Washington for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament. Matches will be played across three days, beginning on Friday, Sept. 30.
