Box Score ASHLAND, Va. — Three different players scored as Catholic earned a 3-0 midweek victory over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night, extending its unbeaten run to five games.
While the Yellow Jackets had their opportunities in the match, the Cardinals were the more clinical of the two sides, finding the net with three of their five shots on target. Randolph-Macon, on the other hand, put eight shots on target, but senior goalkeeper Troy Young repelled all eight, earning his second win of the season after his opening-day start against Baruch.
The game began as a cagey affair, seeing neither team offer a shot on target until the 33rd minute, when Zach DeShavo brought the first save out of Young in the Cardinal goal.
Young made another important save in the 37th minute to keep the match scoreless before Domenic Caltabiano then scored his second goal of the season less than a minute later to push the Cardinals ahead.
Caltabiano turned provider midway through the second half, when his service found junior Michael Hanlon for his first goal of the campaign. The Cardinals topped off the performance by adding a third tally four minutes from fulltime, when Ryan Kelly found the net for the second-straight match.
Hanlon looked dangerous all evening, taking three shots from his midfield position. Andrew Lowman, Alex Reardon and Owen Maher all played the full 90 minutes in the back and were pivotal in securing the third Cardinal clean sheet of the season.
Catholic now turns its attention to the Mustangs of Stevenson University. Catholic will travel to Owings Mills, Md., on Saturday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
