Cardinals Sit Third at Midway Point of Shenandoah Fall Invitational

Berkeley Springs, W.V.  — The Catholic University women's golf team sits in third place after day one of the Shenandoah Fall Invitational at Cacapon Golf Club after shooting a team 334.

Marymount (Va.) leads the eight-team field at the halfway point of the tournament after shooting an opening-round 312 while Bridgewater (Va.) trails the Saints by just three strokes.

In Catholic's first competitive rounds of the season, head coach Ed Dolan saw four players shoot within one shot of each other. Newcomers Brooke Smith and Lauren Wright both carded 83s (+11) in their first collegiate rounds to lead the way for the Cardinals. They sit tied for 11th going into the second day of the tournament.

Returners Lauren Lombardo and Avery Mrak each followed one stroke behind (84, +12) and are tied for 13th heading into the final round on Sunday. Senior Annie Wright rounded out the scoring for Catholic, carding a 91 (+19).

Noelle Jenson of Marymount (Va.) holds the solo lead by five strokes after carding a one-under 71.

The first golfers will tee at 10 a.m. on Sunday and the final group will begin play at 11:50 a.m.
