WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's tennis team opened its season with two victories in head coach Nate Farlow's debut, defeating Harford Community College and Trinity (D.C.).

Brooke Simonson picked right back up where she left off last season, securing victories at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
The reigning All-Landmark Conference first team selection played smart and safe tennis to take her singles match in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), and combined with Marissa Stambaugh to triumph on the doubles court, 8-2.
Sophomore Paige Brightwell cruised to victory at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0) to clinch the match for Catholic while Aubree Narus earned a victory in a very competitive match, battling back after dropping the first set. She was able to rally to defeat Caroline Novak at No. 4 singles in a third-set tiebreak (3-6, 6-4, 12-10).

The Cardinals swept Trinity without dropping a game on the doubles courts. The pairing of Brightwell / Jane Krukiel, Narus / Madison Rollins, and Bridget McCabe / Ella Brown all defeated their opponents at love in impressive showing on the doubles courts.
Krukiel played at the No. 1 singles position, coasting to victory, 6-3, 6-1. Rollins, McCabe and Brown also registered individual wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively.
Gabriella Villaplana and Stephanie Menendez both joined Krukiel in securing the first wins of their careers. Villaplana won in straight sets at love with Menendez was victorious at the No. 6 singles position by a double-break in the first set and a break in the second (6-2, 6-4).
This marks that the first time the Catholic has opened a season 2-0 since 2017.
The Cardinals looks to continue their momentum next weekend when the team travels to St. Mary's (Md.). Opening service is set for noon.
