Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Catholic University baseball senior Peter Giombetti totaled two hits and two RBIs in a 6-3 loss to host Shenandoah in the Winchester Regional of the Division III Baseball Championship.
The Cardinals (31-13) fell for the first time in three games this weekend and will face a winner take all rematch against the Hornets in game 7 of the regional championship.
Giombetti was 2-for-2 with a double while freshman Lucas Malave also had two hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI-single.
Catholic struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first on a double by Giombetti that scored junior Zach Burton before Malave drove in junior Ben Nardi with an RBI-single.
The Cardinals suffered just their fifth loss in 29 games this season when scoring first.
The Hornets (37-12-1) took the lead with four runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Pearce Bucher.
The two-run lead proved to be enough as Jacob Bell went 7.1 innings in just his second start of the season, scattering six hits and striking out seven in improving to 4-0 this season.
Sophomore Danny Fitzgerald went six and two-thirds for Catholic, striking out six. He allowed just six hits while two of his six runs were unearned.
Having split their first two meetings this weekend, the Cardinals and Hornets will meet again at 12:25 p.m. to decide who heads to next week's Super Regional.
