LORTON, Va. - The Catholic University women's rowing team competed in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship on Sunday on the Occoquan River, earning a first-place finish in the Petite Final of the women's varsity eight. After conclusion of all final events, the Cardinals placed seventh out of nine teams.
The Cardinals competed against Stockton, Bryn Mawr, Washington College, St. Mary's (Md.), Adrian, Johnson & Wales, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Franklin & Marshall in three events.
In heat 2 of the women's varsity eight, Catholic placed fourth with a time of 7:35.8 to advance to the petite final where the Cardinals bested their heat time to take first over MSOE in 7:32.6.
In the second varsity eight, Catholic placed fifth after crossing the finish line in 8:16.5 behind the A and B boats from Washington College and St. Mary's.
The Cardinals' varsity four advanced to the Grand Final after placing third in heat 1 with a time of 8:39.9. In the final, Catholic excelled against Stockton, Johnson & Wales, Adrian and Bryn Mawr, crossing the finish line 11 seconds faster for a fourth-place finish.
Catholic returns to action at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. on the Schuylkill River May 7-8.
