WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team fell to Moravian, 6-3, at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (2-4, 0-2 LC) were able to split the singles matches but dropped all three doubles matches, which ultimately proved to be the difference.
Junior Matt Rudolf was victorious at No. 2 singles, winning by a break in both sets (6-4, 6-4) while Juan Gomez Vitta won comfortably at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1).
Senior Emmett Lee grinded to victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Moravian's Kieran Pisani in an extremely tight, three set match (6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
Sophomore Allan Van Nostrand fell in straight sets at No. 1 singles (3-6, 4-6) as freshman Benjamin Perks fell individually at No. 6 singles (0-6, 2-6). Senior James Schmalz fell at No. 5 singles (1-6, 2-6).
Rudolf combined with Perks at No. 1 doubles, where the duo fell to Moravian's pair of Anthony Roma/Wyatt Marshall without winning a game.
Gomez and Lee played together at No. 2 doubles while Van Nostrand and senior David Brennan combined at No. 3 singles. Both teams dropped their respective matches by a break (6-8).
Catholic returns to the court tomorrow, when they host conference rival Elizabethtown in the team's final home match of the season. Opening service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
