ASHLAND, Va. — The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team defeated Randolph-Macon, 170-91, on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals were led by sophomore Jackson Hicks who won all four events that he competed in.
Individually, Hicks was more than two seconds faster than all other competitors in the 100-yard breastroke, claiming the victory with a time of 1:00.53. He was also dominant in the 200-yard breastroke, winning comfortably by more than five seconds with a time of 2:14.70.
Hicks joined forces with Jack Hufner, Nathan Ober and William Crecca in the 200-yard medley relay, outtouching Randolph-Macon's A relay team to win the race by just .11 seconds. Hicks completed his perfect day by combining with freshman Daniel Green, Ober and Crecca for a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 1:29.36.
Crecca also won four total events, adding individual victories in the 50-yard freestyle (22.14) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.50).
Ober won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.48, beating teammate Hufner, who took second, to the wall by nearly a full second.
Ellis Prescott swept the individual distance events, winning the 500-yard (5:06.38) and 1000-yard (10:31.43) freestyles by over nine seconds and over 26 seconds, respectively. He also added a victory in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 4:20.94 to win by nearly six seconds.
Green also grabbed an individual victory, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.12) while finishing second to Prescott in the 500 free.
Catholic won 11 of 14 total events in the comprehensive team victory.
The Cardinals will return to action next weekend, when they travel to Goucher. They will do battle with the Gophers on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
