McEvoy Scores Again, Cardinals Edge Eagles in Overtime

Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Following a first-half hat trick on Wednesday, Molly McEvoy scored the decisive goal in overtime to lift the Catholic University Field Hockey team over Juniata on Saturday afternoon.

The senior midfielder converted a feed from Kellie Caputo with just over a minute remaining in the first overtime period to elevate Catholic to .500 on the season and 2-1 in the Landmark Conference.

McEvoy had now scored a staggering six goals in her last three games after a hat trick against Mary Washington on Wednesday and two goals against conference opponent Drew on Senior Day last Saturday.

Caputo and freshman Mary Rojack both registered a goal and an assist in the contest.

The Cardinals found themselves behind late in the first quarter, when Tess Ledeboer converted for the Eagles. However, Rojack responded just 52 seconds later to ensure the Cardinals entered the first quarter-break level.

Caputo then found the net from Rojack's feed with just over five minutes remaining in the second stanza. The Cardinals carried the 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Eagles responded in the third, pressing Catholic for six penalty corners and finding the equalizer midway through the stanza as Colleen Creneti beat freshman Abigail Kearney.

Catholic pushed heavily in the fourth quarter, doing everything except finding the winner. The Cardinals earned nine penalty corners to Juniata's zero and outshot the Eagles 5-0, but were unable to beat Brittney McMullen in the final 15 minutes of regulation.

It was more of the same in overtime, as Catholic offered the only three efforts toward cage and earned the only two penalty corners of the extra frame before McEvoy sent the Cardinals home with the victory.

Catholic now looks to push its win streak to four games when Rachel Palumbo's squad hosts Goucher for a midweek contest. The Gophers will visit Cardinal Stadium for Faculty and Staff Appreciation night on Wednesda, with opening push back slated for 6 p.m.
