Box Score HUNGTINGDON, Pa. - The Catholic women's volleyball team fell to third-ranked Juniata in a Landmark Conference road match on Wednesday night. The Eagles took it in a sweep; 25-12, 25-17, 25-21. Freshman Halie Murphy's six kills led the offense for Catholic (8-11) while sophomore libero Brynne Burgess led the team with 13 digs.
After dropping the first set, 25-12, the Cardinals jumped out ahead of the Eagles, taking a 9-4 lead. Murphy and senior Brittany Connatser picked up kills while the Cardinal defense forced a potent offense into a string of errors early in the set. Catholic led 12-8 before a seven point run for the Eagles to put them ahead by three. Another Connatser kill got Catholic back within one at 16-15, but Juniata (14-1) took six of the next seven points before closing out the set.
Catholic cut the deficit to three in the third set before another 7-0 run for the Eagles. After falling down to match point at 24-13, the Cardinals showed great resilience and fight, ripping off an 8-0 run before the Eagles closed out the sweep with a 25-21 set win. Junior setter Sydney Sheppard had a pair of aces during the run while Connatser picked up her final kill of the night.
Audrey Muth had 11 kills to lead the Eagles, hitting .400 for the match. Juniata setter Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez led the match with 16 digs.
Catholic returns to action on Saturday, competing in a tri-match at Lycoming with Lebanon Valley.
