YORK, Pa. – The Catholic men's tennis team picked up a dominant 8-1 win over York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals took two of the three doubles matches before sweeping the Spartans in singles.
Freshmen Nathaniel Barish and Henry Odgen were the first match to finish in doubles as they put Catholic ahead with an 8-4 victory. The win was the first of Barish and Ogden's collegiate careers.
Freshman Diego Romo and senior Matt Rudolf combined for a win in the top doubles match, winning 8-5 to put Catholic ahead 2-1 after the doubles session. The pair improved to 3-1 on the season.
It was all Catholic in singles as the Cardinals swept en route to an 8-1 win. Senior Juan Gomez Vitta started it off with a 6-0, 6-1 win at two singles while Rudolf and Romo were the next to finish to each improve to 2-0 on the day.
Freshman Leyton Ramos-Platt picked up his first career win in six singles, taking the match 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Ben Annunziato earned a win at five singles with a pair of 6-3 wins before Ogden won a thriller to complete the perfect round of singles for Catholic.
Catholic will travel to Randolph-Macon on Sunday for its next match.
