Box Score 2 CARLISLE, Pa. - The Catholic women's volleyball team split Saturday's tri-match at Dickinson College, defeating the host Red Devils while falling to Ursinus in the neutral site match.
Catholic 0-3 Ursinus (27-29, 22-25, 22-25)
Freshman Halie Murphy was a standout in Catholic's loss to Ursinus in game one of the day. Murphy racked up 15 kills in the match, hitting .241 to pace the offense. Freshman middle Erin Faughnan picked up six kills on just nine swings to help out the offense. Sophomore Brynne Burgess had 13 digs for Catholic.
Catholic trailed 15-12 in the first set after a kill from junior Olivia Blondin. Blondin picked up another kill to get the Cardinals within one at 21-20 before an error tied the game. Catholic tied it multiple times late before Ursinus closed out a 29-27 set win.
Catholic led 18-14 in the second, but Ursinus went on a late 5-0 run to take a 22-20 before closing out the Cardinals 25-23.
The Cardinals tied the third set at 19 with back-to-back Blondin service aces, but Ursinus took six of nine points to take it in a sweep.
Catholic 3-1 Dickinson (25-11, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18)
A dominant offensive performance led Catholic to a four set victory over Dickinson on Saturday afternoon, hitting .323 in the process. Murphy closed out a tremendous day with 18 more kills, hitting .341 in the match. Senior Brittany Connatser hit .435 and racked up 11 kills for Catholic. Junior setter Sydney Sheppard had 44 assists and 10 digs while Burgess had a match-high 16 digs.
Catholic hit .591 in a 25-11 first set victory over the Red Devils. A kill and an ace from Blondin put Catholic up 12-5. Three kills in a five-play span from Murphy put the Cardinals ahead 18-9. The Cards took five of the final six points to close it out on a kill from Connatser.
The Cardinals jumped ahead early again in the second set, leading it 11-6 after a kill from Connatser. Murphy and freshman Claire Harris picked up kills to give Catholic a 19-13 lead. A 4-0 run put things out of reach for Catholic as sophomore Grace Guerin closed it out with a kill and a 25-17 win.
After dropping the third set, Catholic went up 5-1 and 10-6 in the fourth set. After Dickinson got within two, Catholic scored six straight with two kills each from Murphy and Connatser. Leading 20-14, senior Katie Zaremba picked up a pair of kills and Faughnan added another to go up nine. Connatser and Faughnan combined for a block to win the match.
Catholic will welcome McDaniel to Washington D.C. on Saturday at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
