HAGERSTOWN, Md. — At the halfway point of the Cardinal Fall Classic, the Catholic University women's golf team leads its home tournament by 16 strokes.
Freshman Brooke Smith leads the individual field after carding a career-best 73 (+1). Smith produced four birdies and five bogeys, shooting an impressive two-under on par fives on the day.
The Cardinals will enter day two in control after shooting a team 321 (+33), leading Marymount (Va.) and Bridgewater who shared second after rounds of 337.
Lauren Lombardo and Avery Mrak also sit inside the individual top-10 after 18 holes. Lombardo finished at 81 (+9) while Mrak carded an 82 (+10) to equal her career best.
Lauren Wright shot an 85 (+13), good enough for a share of 13th, while Annie Wright sits in solo 29th to round out the scoring for Catholic.
Playing as an individual, freshman Tyler Zierski also carded a career-best, shooting 90.
The teams will tee it up again tomorrow morning for round two at Black Rock Golf Course. All players will begin at 10 a.m. as part of a shotgun start.
