Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic field hockey team took a 1-0 lead late into the contest before dropping a heartbreaker, 2-1, in overtime versus Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Kearney made the lone save of a slow first quarter before the Cardinals started the scoring in the second. Sophomore Niki Micciche gave Catholic the lead just 36 seconds into the second quarter, scoring off a feed from fellow sophomore Sophia Conners to put the Cardinals ahead of the River Hawks.
On the verge of handing Susquehanna its first Landmark loss of the season, the River Hawks struck late with under four minutes remaining in the contest. Annalee Smith scored to tie the contest.
Catholic had three penalty corners in the final three minutes, but the game went to overtime tied 1-1.
In the first overtime, senior Molly McEvoy and junior Mary Parker put shots on the cage, forcing Mackenzie Bross to make a pair of saves and send the game to a second overtime.
Kearney made a save in the second overtime, but was beat by Sarah McAndrews, giving Susquehanna a 2-1 win double overtime.
Catholic's winning streak came to an end on Saturday, but they will return to action on Saturday, hosting Moravian at 5:30 p.m.
