LEXINGTON, Va. — The Catholic University women's golf team sits two strokes off the lead after one day of competition at the Southern Virginia Knight Invitational.

The Cardinals sit even with hosts Southern Virginia, two strokes behind leaders Bridgewater after shooting an opening-round 338.

Lauren Lombardo and Brooke Smith both shot individual 80s (+8) to lead the way for the Cardinals. The pair is among six players tied for third, three strokes off the individual lead.

Avery Mrak shot an 88 while Lauren Wright carded a 90.

Four teams sit within four strokes at the top of the leaderboard entering round two. Catholic and Southern Virginia are joined by Glenville State (340) in the chase of Bridgewater, who opened with a 336.

Day two at the Lexington Golf and Country Club will be played tomorrow.
