Cutting Scores Twice in 4-3 Overtime Victory at Stevenson

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Catholic University women's soccer sophomore Courtney Cutting scored two goals, including game-winner in overtime as the Cardinals downed Stevenson on the road Wednesday, 4-3.

The Cardinals (2-2) never trailed and doubled up the Mustangs in shots, 24-12, en route to posting their second-straight road win.

Cutting opened the scoring just 1:27 into the contest with her second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Jordan Siok before Stevenson tied the game in the 15th minute off an own goal on a direct kick by the Mustangs.

Siok put Catholic back in front for the second time with her second goal of the season in the 30th minite, but Stevenson responded again to tie the game for the second time at 40:22.

However, junior Liz Gorman netted her first of the season and the fourth of her career just 32 seconds later to give the Cardinals a 3-2 halftime lead.

The Mustangs scored two goals on only four first-half shots while Keegan Caffrey stopped six shots as they were outshot, 13-4.

Stevenson tied the game for the third time just seven minutes into the second half, scoring the equalizer on its fourth shot of the half and eighth of the game.

Neither team could get the game-winner in regulation despite Catholic holding a 10-2 margin in shots over the final 38 minutes.

Cutting would then net her second goal of the game and team-leading third of the season after a misplay by the Mustang defense.

Following a cross into the box by Siok from the right corner and miscommunication between the Stevenson goalie and defender that resulted in a deflection, Cutting drove home the loose ball with a left-footed strike for the game's golden goal just 1:25 into extra time.

With the win, the Cardinals are now 11-4-3 against the Mustangs since 2003.

After making 18 saves on Sunday against No. 16 Christopher Newport, freshman Maeve Graham added seven more on Wednesday as she improved her record to 2-1 in three starts this season.

Catholic plays four of its next five games at home beginning on Saturday, Sept. 11 when the team welcomes No. 6 Johns Hopkins to Carlini Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
