Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's soccer team won its first game on Carlini Field this season with a 1-0 victory over Bryn Mawr Wednesday.
The game marked the first shutout for the Cardinals (4-4-1) this season and the first home win under first-year head coach Casey Sommers. It was also the first meeting meeting between the two teams since Sept. 30, 1989.
The first half remained scoreless despite five shots by Catholic, all of which came from sophomore Jordan Siok who dominated the left wing, creating nine shots on the night.
Bryn Mawr (1-6-0) took seven shots in the first half, including one on goal that was stopped by freshman Maeve Graham.
The Cardinals flipped the script in the second half as they doubled up the Owls in shots, 10-5. Graham made three more saves, including her best of the night in the 77th minute to preserve the shutout.
Catholic's final shot was the game winner as senior Taylor Porcello netted her third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Katarina Bauer who picked up her first career point on the play.
Bauer found Porcello with a centering pass from the right before the forward faked out the goalie in the box and slotted the ball into the open net.
Graham finished with four saves to earn her fourth win of the season in goal.
The Cardinals return to conference play on Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Blue Jays.
