Elliott, McCarthy Make Six Saves in Loss at No. 15 Salisbury

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury scored two first-quarter goals as the 15th-ranked Sea Gulls posted a 5-0 victory over the Catholic University field hockey team on Wednesday at Sea Gull Stadium.

All of the losses for the Cardinals (2-7) this season have come against teams that were either ranked or receiving votes in the NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll.

In addition, six of Catholic's nine games this season have come on the road.

Salisbury (5-4) took a quick 1-0 lead, scoring what proved to be the game-winner just 33 seconds into the game before adding a second tally six minutes later.

Despite being outshot 8-2 in the first half, the Cardinals trailed by just two at the half thanks to three saves from senior Maysen Elliott and one defensive save from senior Grace Jung.

Both teams had the same amount of shots in the third quarter, but the Sea Gulls scored two goals on their three shots to push their lead to 4-0.

Salisbury capped the scoring with a fourth-quarter goal with under five minutes remaining while junior Maeve McCarthy totaled three saves in relief of Elliott.

Catholic begins a two-game homestand on Friday when its hosts Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference contest at Cardinal Stadium beginning at 6 p.m.
