Porcello, Stack Lead Cardinals in 3-3 Draw Versus Salisbury

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's soccer senior Taylor Porcello scored two goals as the Cardinals battled Salisbury to a 3-3 tie in double overtime Sunday at Carlini Field.

Catholic (2-3-1) is unbeaten in four of its last five meetings against the Sea Gulls who finished 2019 with a record 13-3-3 and ranked at No. 8 in the South Atlantic Region.

Porcello totaled her first multi-goal game as she entered Sunday with one goal in 38 career games. She netted the first two goals of the game just three minutes apart as the Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead only 11 minutes in.

Salisbury (3-3-1) got on the board at 14:10 on a penalty kick from Ally Goetz before Autumn Dougherty tied the game just eight seconds later off an assist from Kara Schmidt.

Schmidt tallied a goal of her own five minutes later, capping a string of three goals in 5:15 to give the Sea Gulls a 3-2 lead in the 20th minute.

After a flurry of five goals in a span of 11:17, neither team scored the rest of the half as Salisbury took its one-goal advantage into halftime after outshooting Catholic, 12-6, in the first 45 minutes.

The Cardinals would get the equalizer in the 53rd minute when sophomore Filomena DeGregorio scored her first career goal off an assist from junior Alexa Adelmann who picked up her first point of the season with the helper.

The Sea Gulls held an 8-3 margin in shots in the second half, but the Catholic defense did not allow another goal thanks in large part to five saves from senior Marykate Stack.

Stack finished the game with a career-high eight saves as the Cardinals did not allow a goal in the final 90:35.

Sophomore Jordan Siok led Catholic with five shots, including the best scoring chance in overtime as her shot in 106th minute was saved by Salisbury keeper Emma Hill.

Catholic looks to remain unbeaten in three of its last four games on Wednesday as it travels to St. Mary's (Md.) for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Seahawks.
