Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University field hockey senior Grace Jung scored a goal and had two defensive saves as the Cardinals fell to No. 6 Franklin & Marshall Sunday at Cardinal Stadium, 4-1.
The Cardinals (2-5) faced its fourth top-20 opponent this season and second at home.
Both teams totaled nine shots and eight penalty corners while also netting one goal each off a penalty corner.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Diplomats (4-2) scored two goals in the second with both coming from Kat Horsley, the first off a penalty corner and the second on a penalty stroke.
Catholic cut its deficit in half just 1:13 into the third quarter as Jung netted her second goal of the season off assists from freshman Niki Micciche and sophomore Mary Parker.
The Cardinals outshot F&M, 3-0, in the third quarter, and held a 2-0 margin in penalty corners, but could not get the equalizer before the Diplomats added two more tallies in the fourth off the stick off Amelia McCarthy.
Senior Maysen Elliott had two first-half saves before giving way to junior Maeve McCarthy who played the second.
Catholic returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 25 at Washington and Lee. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams since 2016 and the return of assistant coach Noelani Schulmeyer to her alma mater.
A 2017 graduate of W&L, Schulmeyer played in 74 games for the Generals from 2013-16. She was a two-time All-ODAC selection and ODAC Rookie of the Year.
