Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson scored three unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 3-1 victory over the Catholic University men's soccer team Saturday at Carlini Field.
The Cardinals (3-2-0) suffered their first regular-season loss at home since Aug. 30, 2019, snapping an 11-game unbeaten streak.
Junior Darius Siahpoosh scored his team-leading third goal of the season just seven minutes in off an assist from senior Paul Egan who picked up his team-high second helper.
Catholic maintained its one-goal lead at the half despite being outshot, 6-3, and on the short end of a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Stevenson (4-2-1), who battled No. 23 Johns Hopkins to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday, tied the game less than five minutes into the second half on an own goal by the Cardinals. A clear attempt from the other side of midfield by Mustang keeper Kristian Slaby was redirected off a Catholic defender in the box and past junior Austin Coron.
Just over five minutes later, Stevenson netted what proved to be the game-winner on a penalty kick by Sean McDonald who scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Trailing at home for the first time in the regular season since Oct. 12, 2019, Catholic held an 11-8 advantage in shots in the second half and a 4-1 margin in corner kicks, but it couldn't get the equalizer before the Mustangs added an insurance tally in the 77th minute.
Slaby made all three of his saves in the second half while Coron had five of his career-high six.
The Cardinals continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 22 when they host Salisbury at Carlini Field beginning at 7 p.m.
