WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's tennis team made its home debut on Saturday, posting a 9-0 victory over Juniata at the Marty and Jone Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
Competing at home for the first time in 560 days, the Cardinals (2-0, 2-0 LC) were led by junior Brooke Simonson who sealed the team's fourth-straight win by posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jamie Mahigel at No. 1 singles.
For the second-straight week, Simonson also partnered with sophomore Abby Cassidy to earn a victory at No. 1 doubles as the duo started the day with an 8-1 win over Mahigel and Emma Kramer.
Meanwhile, Cassidy also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 trimph over Kramer at No. 4 singles to earn Catholic's fourth point and set-up match point.
The team of senior Grace Connell and sophomore Colleen McLaughlin were victorious for the second-straight week as well, partnering for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Kady Lohr and Emily Sarro.
Connell followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lohr at No. 2 singles while McLaughlin downed Sarro at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Hanna Scali and junior Olivia Sensenbrenner teammed up for the first time this season and earned the Cardinals' first point of the day with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. The two also posted victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Cardinals return to action next Wednesday, April 7 against Goucher at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
