WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's tennis senior Emmett Lee posted a straight sets win at No. 6 singles to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory over Moravian Saturday at the Marty and Jone Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
The win was the second-straight for the Cardinals (2-1, 2-1 LC) who have now won four-straight at home dating back to last season.
"I was really impressed with how the guys bounced back after a disappointing start in doubles," said head coach Nitin Deodhar. "We felt like we should have been up 3-0, but instead, we were down 2-1. We didn't go away. The guys fought and took four of six singles matches including Emmett getting the clincher at No. 6 singles."
With the match tied at 4-4, Lee picked up his first singles victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Aidan Evans-Gartley to seal the win.
Catholic started out strong as the tandem of senior Frankie Fortunati and freshman Allan Van Nostrand remained unbeaten in three matches at No. 1 doubles this season with an 8-4 win over Justin Szaro and Kieran Pisani to give the take the first point of the match.
After the Greyhounds took the remaining two doubles matches, Fortunati and Van Nostrand regained the lead for the Cardinals by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Van Nostrand has yet to lose a match this season, posting a record of 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and 3-0 at No. 2 singles.
Moravian (3-2) held match point after wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles before junior David Brennan dominated at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory to tie the match at 4-4.
Catholic travels to Elizabethtown on Sunday to take on the Blue Jays indoors beginning at 12 p.m.
