SCRANTON, Pa. - Scranton scored two second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the Catholic University field hockey team in the Landmark Conference championship game Saturday at Weiss Field.

The Cardinals (7-12) conclude their 2021 season with their ninth championship game appearance in the 14-year history of the Landmark Conference. The team's four titles are the second-most behind Juniata (6).

After the Royals took a 1-0 lead just under 10 minutes into the game, sophomore Lauren D'Emilio evened the score with her fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner on an assist from sophomore Carly Bateman.

Catholic held a 9-3 advantage in shots after the first 30 minutes, but Scranton goalie Clare Maguire had four first-half saves.

The Royals (17-1), who are receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, took four of the five shots in the third quarter, scoring what proved to be the game-winner with just two minutes remaining.

The Cardinals pulled senior Maysen Elliott for the final 4:20 in lieu of an extra field player, but Scranton added an insurance tally with just 50 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.

Clare Maguire made five saves for the Royals while Lauren Franco added a defensive save as Catholic outshot Scranton 12-10 and held a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners, including 10-2 in the first half.

Elliot made five saves in her final career game as a Cardinal.
