Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Catholic University baseball senior Cid Porter matched a career-high four hits and had two RBIs in the Cardinals' 7-4 win over Penn St. Berks on Sunday afternoon at the Ripken Experience.
Catholic (7-5) rallied to score five runs in the game's last three innings to win its second-straight win.
Porter, who went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, posted the third four-hit game of his career. Sunday's feat almost matched a previous performance against the Nittany Lions just over two years ago, when he went 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored in a 9-4 win over Penn State Berks on March 5, 2018.
The Cards struck first in the second inning when Jeff Guile hit the first of the team's four doubles to score Connor Cozad for a 1-0 lead.
The Nittany Lions (1-3) did not record a hit until the fifth inning against starter Matt Tesoriero, but continued the rally and scored four runs on five base knocks to go up 4-1.
Catholic got one run back in the sixth when Cole Campbell was hit by a pitch, but the team stranded the bases loaded with three consecutive fly-ball outs.
Leadoff man Connor Sullivan singled to start the seventh inning rally, extending his hitting streak to ten games. The senior has 22 hits in 43 at-bats, boasting an impressive .512 average. Then three-straight doubles to left center field from Porter, Michael Doody, and Ben Nardi scored three runs.
Nardi eventually came around to score on a throwing error to cap the four-run inning that put Catholic ahead 6-4. Porter's fourth hit of the day was an RBI-single that added an insurance run in the eighth inning.
Tesoriero pitched four innings on the mound for the Cardinals, allowing just one run and one hit. In 13 innings pitched this season, he has 13 strikeouts and holds a 2.08 ERA.
Freshman right-hander Brendan Martin earned the win for Catholic, striking out three in 2.2 scoreless innings pitched. Junior Ethan Risse closed out the game in style, striking out five batters in two innings for his first save of the year.
The Cardinals continue their spring break trip Monday with a game against Lehman. First pitch at TicketReturn.com Field is at 11 a.m.
