Cardinals' Hot Hitting Continues in 19-4 Win Over Bison

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University baseball team put forth another big performance at the plate Wednesday evening in a 19-4 rout over local foe Gallaudet at Robert J. Talbot Field.

The Cardinals (5-4) jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the game's first three innings and have now scored 36 runs in their last two contests. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness.

Catholic wasted no time in scoring as Will Pyne brought home fellow senior Connor Sullivan with an RBI-triple in the first inning. After 57 career games played, Pyne recorded his first three-bagger. Sophomore Tommy Antonucci made it 2-0 with a single soon after.

The Cards continued the scoring in the second inning after Kendric Musser led off with a single and Sullivan followed with a team-leading 16th hit on theh year. Then, for a second-straight season against the Bison, Christian Jones homered. Jones' three-run bomb to left-center followed a grand slam he hit against Gallaudet less than a year ago on April 8, 2019.

The hosts went on to score six more runs in the frame with five more hits, highlighted by a 2-RBI triple from freshman Ben Nardi.

Doubles from Tighe Watson and Cole Campbell drove in a total of four runs in a five-run third inning that put Catholic up 16-0.

After the Bison (2-7) scored four runs heading into the bottom half of the sixth, the Cardinals got a couple back courtesy of the long ball. Nicholas Torroella singled to get on base, and then fellow junior Keith Campbell hit a homerun over the left field fence for the first homer of his career.

Junior MJ Dziczkowski earned the win on the mound for Catholic, striking out six batters and allowing three runs in four innings of work. Three pitchers each threw an inning in relief, including freshman Hector Navarro who made his collegiate debut on the mound.

In the win, 12 different batters recorded a hit, and six had at least two RBIs.

The Cardinals compete again tomorrow at Talbot Field in a matchup with No. 7 Randolph-Macon. First pitch against the Yellow Jackets is set for 2:30 p.m.
