Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Catholic University baseball team won its fourth-straight game Tuesday afternoon in an 11-7 victory over Penn College at the Ripken Experience.
The Cardinals (9-5) scored six runs in the second inning for a commanding lead, as four players notched at least two hits in the contest.
After freshman Ben Nardi put the Cards up 1-0 in the first with an RBI-single, the home team went on a tear in the second inning with six runs on five hits.
Keith Campbell, Kendric Musser, and Tighe Watson all got on to load the bases to start the bottom of the second. A triple from senior Connor Sullivan cleared the bases for three runs, and then another three-bagger from Cid Porter brought home a fourth. Fellow senior Jeff Guile had one of his three hits to score a sixth run later to put Catholic up 7-0.
Sullivan's triple extended his hitting streak to 12 games. The Plainview, N.Y. also walked twice, improving his season on-base percentage to .583.
The Wildcats (2-5) mounted a comeback with at least one run in innings four through seven and tallied three homeruns in the contest. It was not enough, however, as the Cardinals put forth their seventh game with at least ten hits, and third in a row.
Senior Nolan Lundholm drove in his second and third RBIs with a single in the fifth inning that scored Sullivan and Porter.
Senior reliever Eric Moore earned his first win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings in relief. Fellow senior Chris Kelly started, throwing two scoreless innings.
The win marks Catholic's fourth-in-a-row over the Wildcats in as many years, all at the Ripken Experience. In those four victories, Catholic has outscored Penn 45-15.
The Cardinals conclude their spring break trip Wednesday with a game against Penn State Harrisburg. The Lions, who won 33 games last year and made it to the NCAA Regional Tournament, have been receiving votes in the d3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Polls earlier this season. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
