Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University baseball junior Michael Doody totaled five hits, including two doubles, but the team fell victim to timely hitting as Montclair State swept a doubleheader Saturday at Talbot Field in the Cardinals' home opener.
Catholic (1-2) allowed 12 runs on 16 hits as the Red Hawks used a five-run seventh to post a 7-1 win in the opener before scoring three runs over the final three innings of a 5-2 victory in game two.
Doody finished the day 5-for-8 with two doubles and a run scored.

The Red Hawks' Matthew Mincieli and Brian Reiss limited the Cardinals to just four hits and one run over the first six innings before the offense blew open a one-run game with a two-run homer by Christopher Walker and a three-run blast by Andrew Ollwerther in the top of the seventh.
Montclair State (2-0) scored all five runs with two outs after junior Ethan Risse retired two of the first three batters he faced. Ollwerther went 3-for-4 with five RBIs while Walker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Freshman Tucker Alch held the Red Hawks to just one run on four hits while striking out four over 5.0 innings in his first career start, but suffered his first loss as the Cardinals were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.
Doody was one of just three players with a hit for Catholic as he was 2-for-4. Seniors Nolan Lundholm and Connor Cozad each had one hit as the Cardinals' two, three and four hitters combined to go 4-for-9. The rest of the lineup was 0-for-11.

With no outs, a runner on second and the Cardinals trailing by three in the bottom of the ninth, the game was called due to darkness.
The Red Hawks had just seven hits, but scored a run in four of the last five innings, including each of the last three, to complete the sweep.
Senior Chris Kelly allowed just two earned runs on two hits over 5.2 innings while striking out three, but suffered the loss as Cahtolic was held to just two runs on seven hits while going 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and leaving eight runners on base.
Doody totaled three of the team's seven hits as he went 3-for-4 with a double and run scored. Lundholm and senior Connor Sullivan each reached base twice in four plate appearances as each had a walk and a base hit.
Montclair State's Tyler Higgins got the win, striking out two and not allowing a hit in 1.2 innings of relief.
The two teams, who hadn't met since April 2, 1985 entering today, conclude their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is at noon.
