Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Playing on Franny Murray Court for the final time in his career, Catholic University men's basketball senior Riley Hayes totaled 19 points and nine rebounds as the Cardinals fell to Susquehanna Saturday, 74-58.
Catholic (8-15, 4-8 LC) split the season series with the third-place River Hawks after handing them one of their only three conference losses this year, 64-59, on January 25.
Hayes was one of five seniors making their final appearance at home in Catholic uniform along with Arvelle Jones, Ben Reese, Thomas Huerter and Collin Hartmann.
Making his second-straight start, Jones finished with a season-high 10 points while Huerter added seven points and four rebounds.
The Cardinals led 16-9 with 12:06 remaining in the first half following a three-pointer by sophomore Will Mulquin before the River Hawks used a 23-2 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a 14-point lead with 5:46 to play.
Susquehanna (16-7, 9-3 LC) scored 22 points in the paint in the first half and another 17 off of turnovers as it held a 36-24 halftime lead.
The River Hawks stretched their advantage to as many as 23 in the second half while limiting Catholic to just 18 shots and forcing another 13 turnovers. The Cardinals did manage to score 15 points from the free throw line where they were 15-of-19.
Junior Justin Pryor scored in double digits for the second time in the last three games as he finished with 10 points.
Catholic concludes its 2019-20 season with back-to-back road games beginning on Wednesday at Goucher. Tip-off from Decker Sports and Recreation Center is at 7 p.m. The Cardinals handed the Gophers a 67-59 loss at home back on January 29.
