Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Catholic University women's soccer team opened Landmark Conference play on the road Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss in double overtime against Scranton.

The Cardinals (4-4-2) hung tough and had some solid chances in a tight contest. The Royals outshot Catholic 15-14 in the match, but the Cardinals had an 11-5 shooting advantage in the second half.

Midfielders Maggie Moorcones and Sarah Brush led the offense with three shots each.

Scranton goalkeeper Amanda Steinberg made some clutch saves in the last minutes of regulation to keep Catholic off the scoreboard.

Brush had back-to-back shots denied in the 87th minute and then a third in quick succession from Halle Green was also saved in a frantic sequence.

After neither side scored in the 90 minutes of regulation and the first overtime period, Scranton got the elusive golden goal in the 103rd minute to get the win.

Junior goalkeeper Nina Fernandez made seven saves to keep her team in the contest.

Catholic travels to take on Eastern in its next match on Tuesday, October 1. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
