WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Gettysburg at The Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
"The team responded very well after a tough set of matches last weekend," said head coach Nitin Deodhar. "They worked hard on the areas the coaches said needed improvement and it showed today. We now have two weeks between matches and can get some solid work in before Shenandoah comes to town."
The Cardinals (1-2) won all three doubles matches. Junior Eric Macarski and sophomore Paul Smith posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles before they both posted victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Junior Frankie Fortunati and senior Kyle Weber won at No. 1 doubles before Weber won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Junior Dom Mazzeo and senior Joe Colucci also snagged a win for the Cards at No. 3 doubles while Colucci was victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
The Cardinals return home on Saturday, Oct. 5 against Shenandoah at noon.
