Cardinals Score Final Four Goals in 8-6 Road Win at Drew

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. - After five-straight goals gave Drew its largest lead of the game, the Catholic University men's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game on the road to post an 8-6 win over the Rangers Saturday and remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Cardinals (7-5, 3-0 LC) are still one game ahead of Scranton atop the Landmark Conference standings after the Royals improved to 2-0 following today's 23-6 win over Goucher at home.

After a natural hat-trick by freshman Sean Baudo gave Catholic a 4-1 lead with 9:26 remaining in the second quarter, Drew scored just 10 seconds later with what was the first of five unaswered goals for the Rangers to give them a 6-4 lead with 8:04 to play in the third.

The Cardinals finally found the back of the net for the first time in almost 33 minutes when freshman Archer Rymiszewski scored his first career goal on the man-advantage off an assist from senior Dalton Leach with 6:33 left in the third quarter.

Rymiszewski is the 21st different Cardinal to score a goal this season while Leach scored a point in back-to-back games for the first time in his career after picking up his first career point with an assist in last Saturday's 14-13 overtime win over Moravian at home.

Trailing 6-5 entering the fourth, junior and reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week Vince Catenacci, scored back-to-back, netting his team-leading 24th and 25th goals of the season, to regain the lead for Cardinals.

From there, the Catholic defense limited the Rangers to just two shots over the final nine minutes while forcing five turnovers.

Freshman Tommy Welch scored his sixth goal in the last five games with 2:10 remaining to add some insurance for the Cardinals.

Baudo finished with three goals while Catenacci had two and freshman Joey Rockovich picked up three assists. Freshman Mike McShea won 11 of 17 faceoffs, including nine of the last 12 over the final three quarters. Junior Alex Mulyk earned his fifth win of the season after making eight saves, four of which came in the momentum changing third quarter.

After netting just one extra-man goal in its previous six games, Catholic has now scored three in last two.

Seamus O'Connor had two goals for Drew (1-10, 0-2 LC) while Kevin Goettlich had a goal and two assists. Nate Sanders made 13 saves, including 11 in the first three quarters.

The Cardinals have back-to-back Landmark Conference games at home beginning on Wednesday when they host Goucher at 4 p.m.
