WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's swimming & diving team defeated St. Mary's (Md.) in a 168-89 dual meet victory on Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center pool.
The win is the team's fourth consecutive dual meet triumph on the season.
The Cardinals opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay event to earn eleven points. Gregory McCarthy (26.24), Ryan Kinnon (29.33), Kevin Jay (24.24), and George Isaacs (21.78) combined for a 1:41.59 winning time.
Ellis Prescott took first in the 200-freestyle at 1:55.45, followed by teammate Lenny Brown at 1:56.62. Another Cardinal duo went one-two in the 100-breaststroke when Isaacs (1:03.94) and Kinnnon (1:06.81) earned 13 total points.
Matthew Mahon touched first in the 50-freestyle sprint event with his time of 22.34, followed by Jay at 22.97. Mahon won again after a meet intermission in the 100-freestyle with a 49.92 time.
Jay took the top spot in the 200-breaststroke at 2:26.02. Prescott picked up another win in the 500-freestyle at 5:08.43.
Gregory McCarthy touched first in the 100-butterfly at 54.84. Prescott and Jay took first and second in the 200-individual medley at 2:07.34 and 2:10.76, respectively.
The Cardinals closed the meet with a win in the 200-freestyle relay as Isaacs, McCarthy, Luke Nicholson, and Mahon teamed up for a 1:30.70 winning time.
On the boards, the Cards competed as exhibition divers. Will Chester led in the 1-meter diving event at 149.45, followed by Seamus Koehr (120.25) and Brett Russell (117.10). Koehr scored 133.25 on 3-meter and Russell qualified for conference championships with a 102.20 score.
Catholic will compete next after the new year against Gettyburg on Sunday, Jan. 12 on the road.
