Men's Swimming Posts 194-66 Victory Over Elizabethtown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's swimming & diving team handled Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown in a 194-66 dual meet victory on Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center Pool. 

The Cardinals swept the top three spots in six different events in the team's second meet victory of the season. The Cards got things started right away in the 200-medley relay to pick up 15 points in the meet's first event. 

Gregory McCarthy (26.21) Chris Grunbok (28.76), Ryan Iosim (24.50), and George Isaacs (21.86) teamed up for a first-place time of 1:41.33. Jeffrey Schriefer-Flores, Ryan Kinnon, Kevin Jay, and Matthew Mahon made up the foursome that earned second place with a 1:42.04 time. 

McCarthy then touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:44.32.

Catholic took first, second, and third in the 200-freestyle as Luke Nicholson took first at 1:51.83, followed by Lenny Brown (1:53.45) and Ellis Prescott (1:53.52). Isaacs and James Kelly then went one-two in the 100-backstroke with times of 1:05.29 and 1:06.32, respectively. 

The first of two consecutive sweeps took place in the 200-butterfly as Jay touched first at 2:11.98 while Joe Keller (2:15.98) and Matt Meade (2:21.38) followed for second and third. In the next event, the 50-freestyle sprint, Schriefer-Flores had the winning time of 22.15, while teammates Mahon (22.59) and Thomas Marciano (23.87) rounded out the top three. 

Schriefer-Flores continued his winning ways with a first-place finish in the 200-backstroke at 2:01.95 and Dan Lawrey took second with his 2:07.73 time.

Grunbok (2:20.17) won the 200-breaststroke by a solid margin as teammates Kinnon (2:29.57) and Kelly (2:29.67) took second and third. Sophomore Joshua Roberts topped the 500-freestyle event at 5:19.68. 

Kyle Kreuscher touched first in the 100-butterfly with the only time under one minute at 58:56, and then Prescott swam away with the win in the 400-individual medley at 4:26.21, followed by Jay (4:44.83) and Nicholson (4:46.56). 

The Cardinals closed out the meet with a sweep in the 200-freestyle relay. Isaacs (22.46), Schriefer-Flores (22.44), Kreuscher (23.36) and Mahon (22.46) combined for a winning time of 1:30.72 as Catholic added 15 more points to finish the 194-66 win in style.

Seamus Koehr and Brett Russell got practice on the boards as exhibition divers in the meet. Koehr scored 131.95 on the 1-meter and 107.15 on 3-meter, while Russell scored 96.05 on 1-meter. 

Catholic travels Towson, Md., to take on another Landmark Conference opponent in Goucher next Saturday, Nov. 16.
