GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Catholic University women's soccer junior Nina Fernandez stopped five of the six shots she faced, but Gettysburg scored the game's only goal less than a minute in as the Bullets edged out a 1-0 non-conference victory Wednesday at Clark Field.

The Cardinals (8-6-2) fell for the first time in their last five games.

Gettysburg (10-2-1), who is ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches, improved to 6-1 at home this season 6-0 in non-conference contests.

It took the Bullets just 57 seconds to score the game's lone goal. As Catholic was trying to clear its defensive zone, Gettysburg's Erika Muskus intercepted the pass before dribbling past a defender and scoring in the lower left corner for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Bullets looked for an insurance tally in the 30th minute, but a Cardinals' defender made the stop inside the post to keep the margin at 1-0.

Fernandez made three of her five saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Both teams had four shots in the second half and Catholic almost had the equalizer in the 56th minute, but Kerry Sammon had two saves just eight seconds apart, including the second on a diving stop to thwart a rebound attempt and preserve the Bullets' one-goal lead.

The Cardinals held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks with a 6-2 margin in the second half.

Catholic hosts a Landmark Conference contest versus Moravian on Saturday for Senior Day. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor its eight seniors in Bella Bertoncini, Grace Boras, Sarah Brush, Gabby Demarest, Mackenzie Earley, Elizabeth Johnson, Daniella Montesano and Reagan Sharkey.
