Cardinals Shutout Eagles in 6-0 League Road Win

Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Catholic University women's soccer team put on its best offensive performance of the season Saturday evening in a dominant 6-0 victory at Gibbel Field.

The Cardinals (8-5-2, 4-1 LC) jumped out to an early lead in the first ten minutes of the match and never looked back, scoring six times with six different goal scorers.

Catholic outshot its opponent 22-5 in the contest, controlling possession and threatening consistently.

Junior midfielder Maggie Moorcones got the scoring started in the 10th minute with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Fellow junior Bridget Buckley got a goal of her own less than three minutes later to double the visitors' lead. Senior forward Elizabeth Johnson then got on the score sheet for the first time since Sept. 7 with her third goal of the season in the 33rd minute, assisted by Krista Boretti.

After three goals in the first half, the Cards followed with three more in the second for their highest-scoring match of the year. The six-goal margin of victory is the team's biggest since a 6-0 win at Drew on Oct. 22, 2016.

Freshman midfielder Alexa Adelmann kept the scoring going in the second half with her first career goal in the 52nd minute.

Senior forward Grace Boras added the fifth goal of the day off an assist courtesy of Leila Esposito. Freshman forward Elizabeth Gorman continued in her strong form and found the back of the net for her third goal of the season in the 77th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Nina Fernandez saved the only shot she faced in the shutout victory, her sixth clean sheet of the year.

A 4-1 conference record puts the Cardinals tied at the top of the Landmark after a loss to Scranton to start conference play. Catholic and Susquehanna both sit tied for first with 4-1 records.

The Cardinals play their final nonconference match next Wednesday, October 23 on the road against Gettysburg. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
